This simple apple pie is quick to make with store bought puff pastry. The stunning lattice top makes it a wonderful addition to any dessert table.


Granny smith apples Cinnamon Nutmeg Ginger Lemon juice Salt Unsalted butter Flour Water Sugar Egg Puff pastry


1. Melt butter in a saucepan, then add flour. Stir vigorously.

2. Pour in water and stir. Add sugar until dissolved. 

3. Peel the apples, slice into four and remove the core.

4. Make thin apple slices. Add lemon juice to prevent browning. Then add the spices.

5. Pour the butter mixture and stir until all the apple slices are coated.

6. Cut the puff pastry to fit your bake dish. Add the apple filling and  pastry strips on top horizontally.

7. Add vertical strips of pastry and fold alternate strips to make a lattice pattern on top.

8. Add eggwash and bake for 75 minutes until golden brown.

Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream or vanilla custard.
