Decadent, Fluffy Chocolate Cake Waffles that are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. These waffles are super easy to make, don’t take a lot of time or technique and can be served for breakfast or dessert with your favorite toppings.
Add all-purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt and mix until well combined.
Pour buttermilk, unsalted butter, eggs and vanilla essence to a bowl and whisk until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir. Do not overmix the batter and make sure there are still a few lumps.
Heat the waffle maker and add the batter. Cook for 10 minutes or follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Serve chocolate waffles with your favorite toppings.
Notes
Waffle maker: If you don’t have a waffle maker, you can still make this recipe using a griddle pan. Just grease the pan before pouring in the batter. I picked up this tip from Jamie Oliver’s pan waffle recipe. Essentially, you’ll be making griddle pan waffles. Feel free to divide the waffles into portions or serve them whole.
Batter: Be careful not to overmix your waffle batter. To keep your waffles fluffy and light, stop mixing while there are still some lumps in the batter.
Buttermilk: If you’re making buttermilk from scratch, combine 1.5 tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice with 1.5 cups of whole milk. Stir and let it stand for 15 minutes before using it in the recipe.
