This festive Puffed Pastry Cherry Christmas Star is crispy, sweet, and delicious. It is made with three ingredients in 15 minutes. Serve as an appetizer or sweet treat.
Preheat the oven to 180C/360F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place a circular plate on the pastry and cut around it to make a circular shape. Repeat this step with the second pastry and set aside. Feel free to use the remaining pastry to cut out fun shapes like stars.
Place one circle on the lined baking tray, then spread the cherry preserve on top.
Place the second pastry on top, then position a smaller circular dish in the middle. Slice the pastry into four sections, then halve each section again. Finally, make one more cut in each section, resulting in sixteen equal-sized slits.
Then, twist the two pieces of each slit at a time and press the corners together to make a star.
Remove the circular plate from the middle and baste with egg wash. Bake the pastry for 20 minutes or until golden.
Once the puffed pastry cherry Christmas star is ready, dust it with icing sugar and serve.
Notes
Filling: Avoid overfilling the pastry with cherries to prevent sauce leakage during baking.
Puff Pastry: Use three layers of puff pastry instead of two for extra crispiness. Homemade puff pastry can also be used for this recipe.
Oven: Preheat the oven for at least ten minutes before baking to ensure even cooking.
