About this Recipe
Seafood tacos are one of the best inventions ever created! At least, that’s how we feel here at Sims Home Kitchen. We were excited to tackle these scrumptious shrimp tacos while removing all of the carbs the traditional dish has. In our take, we removed tortillas and used lettuce wraps instead. Different wrapper, same crunchy satisfaction!
Get your lettuce and prawns ready, because lunch is almost served!
How Can Tacos be Carb-Free?
Those who are eliminating carbs from their diets, or perhaps those who must start investing in gluten-free foods, might be particularly missing tacos. Traditionally, tacos have many ingredients that are high in carbs and starch.
We like to create healthy alternatives for you and your family to enjoy, because we understand that everyone has different health needs and nutritional preferences. For our recipe, we got rid of taco shells altogether. Instead, we recommend the use of big lettuce leaves that you can fold into a taco. You’ll still get all of the same tastes of your favourite taco ingredients, and with the crunchiness of the lettuce, it will be just like the original dish!
How to make Easy Low-Carb Lettuce Shrimp Tacos
1 Add prawns to a bowl and season with salt to taste, pepper to taste and splash some lemon juice.
2. Heat up a few drops of olive oil or sunflower oil to a pan and add the shrimps. Cook them on medium heat, tossing often, for about 3-5 minutes per side.
3. Add some sprinkles of chopped parsley to the pan and stir it in with the shrimps. Remove them from heat and set them aside to cool off.
4. Meanwhile, wash some leaves of lettuce and pat them dry with a paper towel. Add the shrimps, plus some chopped tomatoes, spring onions, and lemon slices to each leaf. Fold it together like a taco shell.
5. Optional: add organic sour cream to the top for a dash of coolness to counteract those spicy tastes.
6. Enjoy!
How Long Can it Last?
You should not store prawns for very long, but the remaining ingredients can be kept in the fridge for a couple of days. However, as with most of our recipes, it may be best to enjoy it as soon as it’s prepared. Why wait to eat it?
