An Easy Cottage Pie Recipe
1. Add 1 can of plumbed tomatoes to a blender and blitz until they are finely chopped into small pieces. Set aside for now.
2. In a large pan, heat up a splash of oil. Add 1-2 chopped onions and cook until they get soft. Then add 500g of minced beef, and season with salt and pepper. Cook until the beef turns brown.
3. Add the blended tomatoes to the pan and bring it to a boil. Add salt, pepper, 2-3 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 bay leaf, and let it cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
4. Optional: In a small mixing bowl, add 1-2 tablespoon of plain flour and 2 tablespoon of water. Mix it until combined, then add to the minced beef pan. This will thicken the mince sauce if you prefer it to be thicker.
5. Remove your mince mix from heat and set aside for a moment. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius/180 degrees Celsius Fan/Gas 6). While it’s heating up, peel 750g of potatoes and cut them into similarly-sized chunks. Add them to a saucepan and cover them with water. Cook for 12-15 minutes until they are soft. Then, drain the water and add ¼ cup of milk and 50g of butter before you mash them.
6. Add the minced beef to an oven dish. Cover with the mashed potatoes. Sprinkle cheese on top before placing it in the oven.
