The History of Jollof
Bulgur wheat is a popular favourite among us here at Sims Home Kitchen, and our readers seem to love it, too! Jollof is a traditional rice dish eaten in West Africa, and it contains so many great flavours. Just wait until you try it...this meal is a gift that keeps on giving!
Originating among the Jollof people of West Africa, the original recipe has evolved over the years to contain ingredients from other regions around the world, because this dish was often shared in cultural exchanges. We honour that symbol of uniting cultures through our delectable dish which shares tastes from all four corners of the world!
Why Jollof Bulgur and Not Jollof Rice?
Bulgur is super similar to rice, especially the kind of rice that is found in the West African region where this dish originates from. We chose to include Bulgur instead of regular rice to provide an alternative to starchy grains. Plus, bulgur happens to have more nutritional value than rice around the world!
Mixing Tips
When you are preparing this dish and mixing everything around, it’s important to use a wooden spoon. Wooden spoons can prevent your meal from getting mushy, and it also prevents it from burning and browning.
