Tips and Substitutions
- Avocados: For this recipe, you will need ripe avocados. Give the avocados a gentle squeeze to ensure they are ripe and ready to eat; they should give way when you squeeze them. Make sure the avocados are not too ripe, as they will be brown inside, and if they are unripe, they won’t form a creamy dip!
- Tomatoes: Always use fresh tomatoes in your guacamole. Look for tomatoes that have some give when you squeeze them. That's a sign of ripeness. Also, avoid any tomatoes with scars, bruises, or discoloration. The skin should be vibrant and not dried out.
- Variations: To make plain guacamole, do not include tomatoes, red onions, or cilantro. If you are a fan of spice, then add some jalapenos to your guacamole! For a fruity twist, add mangoes or pineapples.
