Taco Tuesday is our favorite day of the week! We are celebrating this mid-week meal with some wholemeal tacos to keep the carbs and calories down while still enjoying the same fabulous tastes!
These tacos are seriously delicious. We added all of our favorite ingredients and spices for a healthy rendition of tacos that really pack a punch. We’re all about powerful flavors here at Sims Home Kitchen!
Are there Wholemeal Flour Alternatives?
Wholemeal flour still not what you’re looking for? Do you need something totally gluten-free? Try graham flour! If that doesn’t work, you can try almond or buckwheat flour, which both have no wheat products and have lower carbs altogether.
However, be careful with almond flour, as it might leave a little bit of a flavour! Some people like this, but others don’t. At Sims Home Kitchen, we are all about trying new things, so let us know if you like your substitute better than the wholemeal flour we recommend here!
How to Make Healthy Wholemeal Chicken Tacos
- Add 2 cups of wholemeal flour with a pinch of salt and about 3 tablespoon of olive oil to a large mixing bowl. Mix it together until it is combined. Slowly add ⅔ cup of boiling water to the mix, stirring as you add it in. Once it’s all mixed together, roll it into a ball shape.
- Knead this ball of flour on a table for a few minutes. Put it aside in a room-temperature space and let it sit for 30 minutes. Afterward, cut it into 8 equal pieces and flatten them with a rolling pin.
- Heat up some oil in a frying pan and fry each piece of batter for 2-3 minutes per side. Remove them from the pan and set them aside.
- In the same pan, add 2 chopped chicken fillets, ½ teaspoon of cumin, a pinch of paprika, some lemon juice, and ½ teaspoon of curry powder to the pan. Cook for 10 minutes.
- Add ingredients to the fried tortillas, top with guacamole and sour cream, and enjoy!
Storage Options
These will probably last in the fridge for a few days, as long as you keep them in an airtight container. However, we would suggest that you store all of the food items separately to avoid contamination and to promote longevity of all ingredients.
