How to Build Quick Easy and Healthy Smoothies
The three key ingredients you will need to build a healthy smoothie are fruits, vegetables, and liquids. In addition, you can add nuts, seeds, herbs, spices and sweeteners to smoothies for more nutrients and flavor!
To make a basic smoothie you can include just about any fruit and vegetables of your choice but make sure that some of your fruit and vegetables are frozen. This is how you can achieve the perfect smoothie consistency. Some popular fruit and vegetable ingredients are berries, bananas, pineapples, spinach, kale and avocados.
Next, you will need to add a liquid to your smoothie to loosen the texture. My go-to addition is plant-based milk because it is healthy and makes the smoothie creamy. You can also add water or ice if you don’t want a milky smoothie. Or, you can add some yogurt to make your smoothie extra creamy. Avocados are also a great addition for creaminess.
Then, you can add some nuts and seeds for additional nutrients. Here are some examples of some popular nut and seed additions: walnuts, almond butter, peanut butter, chia seeds, sunflower seeds and flax seeds.
In addition, herbs and spices can be added to smoothies. Adding these ingredients will give the smoothie more flavor and they also have health benefits. Ingredients such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, cocoa powder, basil and mint are some great healthy choices.
Finally, you have the option to add a healthy sweetener to your smoothies if you want to sweeten up the taste. Honey and pitted dates are my go-to options. However, you can add sweet fruits like pineapples or mangoes to your smoothies if you want to avoid sweeteners all together (this is what I usually do).
Here is a list of ten benefits you get from drinking smoothies:
- Controls cravings
- Helps with weight loss
- Prevents dehydration
- Source of antioxidants
- Improves skin
- Helps Digestion
- Improves your mood
- Provides fibre
- Enhances immunity
- Makes you feel full
What I Used to Make 10 Quick Easy and Healthy Smoothie Recipes
So now you know what ingredients to use the next thing you need to consider is what you use to blend your smoothie. I will admit that when I first started making smoothies, I’d use a blender but there a few downsides to this.
Firstly, I found that my smoothies didn’t blend properly, and I struggled to get my desired consistency. This is because the blades in food blenders are not sharp enough to blend frozen food and ice. Another issue was that my smoothies had a subtle spicy taste which is definitely not what I was after. This was because I usually used my blender to blend spicy ingredients like scotch bonnets and garlic. So, after drinking a few lumpy spicy smoothies I decided to invest in the homegeek smoothie maker and my smoothies have been transformed!
The homegeek smoothie maker has special sharp blades for blending ice and frozen ingredients. Plus, it has an ice blending setting which is useful when blending smoothies. In addition, this smoothie maker is very affordable compared to other smoothie makers on the market so I would recommend it.
So, now you know how to build a smoothie, the benefits of drinking smoothies and what to use to blend a smoothie it’s time for you to have a go and make your own smoothies!
