Ingredients
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
- Frozen Bananas: are an essential part of this smoothie because they are rich in potassium and help to create a sweet, creamy base. It is essential to make sure that the bananas are frozen in order to achieve a good texture. You can buy frozen bananas or make your own by peeling bananas, chopping them into pieces and freezing them in a freezer bag for at least 12 hours. Bananas can be frozen for up to six months.
- Avocados: Add a lovely creamy texture to this smoothie.
- Spinach: You can use frozen spinach or fresh spinach for this recipe.
- Celery: I use fresh celery in this recipe.
- Apples: are a great natural sweetener. I use green apples in this recipe but feel free to use any apple you choose. If you are an apple lover, you'll enjoy this Kale Apple and Salad.
- Almond milk: is a nutritious plant-based milk. It helps to loosen the consistency of the green smoothie. How much milk you add to this smoothie is up to you. If you prefer a thicker smoothie, then go for less milk, and if you want a thinner smoothie, then add more.
- You can add a sweetener if the smoothie is not sweet enough for you. Dates are a great natural sweetener, or you can go for honey or maple syrup.
Tips and Substitutions
- Avocados: You can use frozen avocados instead of fresh avocados.
- Spinach: Frozen spinach can be used instead of fresh spinach.
- Milk: Some great alternatives to almond milk are coconut milk, sweetened soya milk and oat milk. You can also use water instead of milk.
- Ice: If you want to add some chill to this smoothie, add ½-1 cup of ice.
- Add-ins: Add 1-3 tablespoon of fresh chopped ginger for more flavor. You can use ground ginger instead if you don’t have fresh ginger. You can also add a scoop of protein powder or chai seeds.
- Water, coconut water, or plant-based milk can be used to loosen the consistency of the green smoothie.
