Strawberry Blackberry Banana Smoothie Benefits
Not only does this smoothie taste delicious, but it also has many health benefits! First of all, there are no artificial flavourings or sugar in this recipe, and it is dairy free. Each fruit in this smoothie is nutritious:
- Strawberry – Strawberries are known to protect the heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. They are also packed with vitamins, fibre, and high levels of antioxidants. Strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food.
- Blackberry – Blackberries are rich in vitamin C. One cup of blackberries includes 30.2 milligrams of vitamin C! They are also high in fibre, a great source of vitamin K and high in manganese.
- Banana – Bananas are a great source of potassium. They also include vitamin B6, fibre, carbohydrates, and vitamin C.
Strawberry Blackberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients
It is important to make sure that the strawberries, blackberries and bananas are frozen in order to achieve the perfect smoothie texture. You can buy frozen fruit or freeze your own fruit.
To make your own frozen bananas, peel a banana, chop it into pieces and freeze them in a freezer bag for at least 12 hours. Bananas can be frozen for up to six months.
If you want to freeze the strawberries and blackberries then wash them well, add them to a freezer bag and freeze for at least 12 hours for a smoothie. Berries can be frozen for up to six months.
Plant Based Milk
I chose almond milk for this smoothie recipe because it is delicious, and creamy. In addition, almond milk is vegan and still full of protein and calcium. Therefore, it’s sure to give this strawberry blackberry banana smoothie a boost.
Alternatively, you can use coconut milk, cashew milk, hemp, oat or soy milk for this smoothie.
How to Make a Strawberry Blackberry Banana Smoothie
So how do you transform four simple ingredients into a thick, immune-boosting smoothie? Here’s how I do it:
- Add ½ a cup of a frozen bananas, 1 cup of frozen strawberries, 1 cup of frozen blackberries and 2-3 cups of almond milk to a smoothie maker.
- Blend and adjust the taste as necessary with more milk or fruit.
- Serve immediately, or store your smoothie, covered, in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Enjoy! 🙂
NB: For this recipe you can use shop bought frozen fruit or freeze fresh fruit yourself.
Milk Alternatives
You can use water instead of plant-based milk and if you want this smoothie to be extra cold then add some crushed iced to the smoothie maker before blending.
Storage
To store the strawberry blackberry banana smoothie overnight pour the smoothie into a mason jar and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. You can also freeze the strawberry pineapple smoothie in a mason jar for up to 2 months. Once you remove the smoothie from the freezer and refrigerate it for 24 hours before drinking.
