Greens are typically used as a base in salads; however, you can use ingredients such as pasta, quinoa, noodles, beans and bulgur wheat as a base instead. If you want your salad to be more filling or you want to serve it as a main then add proteins such as, chicken, beef slices, salmon, shrimp, beans or tofu! For extra crunch and nutrients add nuts and seeds. Finally, if you want the salad to have more of a sour taste then add cheeses such as feta, mozzarella or blue cheese.
Some salads are served as mains while others are eaten as sides. Some popular sides include coleslaw, potato salad and tabbouleh.
